Minor
The Russian Studies program offers two minors.
- Russian Studies/International and Area Studies Minor: For this minor, you are required to complete 18 graded units plus 4 semesters (or its equivalent) of Russian language.
- 3 units must be Introduction to Russian Civilization.
- 3 must be the Crossing Borders course.
- At least 12 units of advanced (300+) coursework drawn from at least two different departments, all focused on Russia, as determined in consultation with the advisor.
- No more than 3 units may be from independent study or research.
- No more than 3 units may be from a semester of study abroad (6 units from a year of study abroad).
- All advanced units must be unique to the Russian Studies minor (i.e. not counted towards any other major or minor).
- Some units earned through advanced level (300 or above) Russian language study may be applied to the minor at the discretion of the advisor unless being counted for a language major or minor.
2. Russian Language & Literature Minor: This minor requires 18-19 graded units. The prerequisite is Elementary Russian (L39 Russ 101 and L39 Russ 102) or the equivalent.
- 10 units must be Intermediate Russian (211D, 212D), OR you must place into Third-Year Russian.
- 6 units must be Third-Year Russian (322D, 333D).
- 3 units must be a 300- or 400-level course in Russian literature.
- Students who place into Third-Year Russian must complete a minimum of 18 units of 300+ level language or literature courses.
- No more than 3 units may be from a semester or summer abroad.
- No more than 6 units may be from a year abroad.
- All advanced units must be unique to the Russian Language & Literature minor (i.e. not counted towards any other major or minor).
